The current digital era with new tools has overshadowed essential learning skills, generating hostile environments where the proliferation of disinformation and incitement to hatred, the decline of trust in the media, digital innovations have increased mental laziness excused by AI (Artificial Intelligence). All but other tools do not allow us to adopt a critical attitude towards the content we consume.
Basic concepts such as defining, locating, evaluating, organizing, judging and processing the information we receive and/or broadcast, are today quixotic anecdotes, generating the need to constantly contrast the content with other sources, and to raise questions such as who is sending the message, why is it being sent and what medium.
The mental vulnerability of the new generations has opened a speculative crater of beliefs and narcissistic tendencies, evading reality through a “like” or a few uninformed people. It is here where strategies such as strengthening the memory of young people are transcendental to help them develop their social and emotional skills and those that allow them to learn for themselves develop empathy towards other people. But also, media competence, that is, the ability to be critical of the content that reaches us.
"Critical thinking is to have
the desire to seek, the patience to doubt, the fondness to meditate, the
slowness to affirm, the readiness to consider, the care to set in order, and
the hatred for all kinds of imposture." Francis Bacon.
Those truths that are accepted without filter (fake news) must cross the path of analysis and evaluation of the consistency of reasoning, due to the current relevant technology for its proliferation and rapid virilization. The absence of critical thinking has led to terms such as bandwagon taking root in the everyday life of human beings.
The times where distinguishing
valuable information from expendable information, seeking well-founded
conclusions, creating alternatives, improving communication, discerning between
mediocre and brilliant arguments, dismantling prejudices, are images of a past
that we are creating. Therefore, highlighting our humanity and not falling into
automatons of programmed response through the loss of cognitive activity
related to reason, is the challenge of which young people do not want to be
aware, analyzing information in small doses, giving importance to details and
looking for new nuances, encouraging the practice of curiosity and skepticism,
questioning and doubting, questioning everything we are told, especially if it
is in line with our own beliefs.
The resurgence of standards that
have a line of concurrence where the individual can see an evolution of thought
are the ideal path within so much impure technology of knowledge.
Clarity in concepts through
examples that lead to visualize ideas, thus achieving a truthfulness that
provides spaces of confidence, seeking the accuracy of details and delving into
the connection of the subject with the evidence presented, avoiding the circumlocutions
of rationing and seeking solid arguments that strengthen the idea to be defined
by having a broad horizon of concepts which help us in achieving a logical and
truthful knowledge that will contribute to coexist among critical beings who can
continue their evolution in a digital space.
